Day 14: Synchronicity

Though leaving Avalon was quite difficult (specially for Haley who really loves it there and hopes to go back for a much more extended stay), we managed to pack up once again for a long day of driving towards big city Los Angeles. After a good nights rest on comfy couches (THANKS TYLER!), we woke up to breakfast burritos and horchatas! Following brunch, we made way toward Korea Town and an artist collective called Synchronicity.

Here we were able to check out so much amazing art, jam out for a bit in their studio space, and release some energy on the basketball court. They have a great space where people of the greater community can come share meals and their arts and talents during frequent art salons. These gatherings can encompass stand-up routines, open mic performances, short films, ted talks, story telling, art sharing, projections, and dance to name a few.

This community is sustainable in the fact that sharing art is a great way to escape daily hardships in a growingly busy city. Art can additionally be a great form of advocacy and action for issues people face in times of great change. We were able to learn how they foster a sense of community and safe place for residents. Many houses on the block are able to collectively generate the feel of sanctuary away from the bustle of the city.

What is art? What are everyday objects?
